This comedy takes a serious look at women's lives past and present. We intersperse music, satire and scenes to tell how the food gatherer comes to wrap sandwiches in a factory, the storyteller evolves into a school teacher, the healer of the past becomes the welfare mother of today, the firetender - a secretary at the gas company, and the woman who builds houses becomes the woman who cleans them.
These roles trace the birth and
the progression of the hierarchy of work, the dehumanization of work and
the isolation of workers from each other. It also shows how even as we
are defined by our wirk, we are constantly finding ways to cope and survive,
and even to fantasize. The CHANGEBRINGERS tries
to show that people do have power over their lives and that their power
is greater when they act together.
"The production was not preachy or overbearing, but was very moving and had marvelous moments of humor. Each actress endowed the play with her own personality and vibrant spirit. . . Not only did Circle of the Witch Theater present a play about change, but also showed they were open to implementing change by asking the audience to remain fo a discussion after the play. . . liked the original music!" | To Circle of the Witch Cooperative. . . I have just arrived home after seeing CHANGEBRINGERS. I loved it! I have never felt so emotional about a play. . . from me you have my most solemn promise that I will advertise the best way we have ever had - word of mouth. I thank you all so much for sharing with all those who come, one story of women yet to be told generation to generation. With utmost sisterly love and admiration," |
